Valencia CF, protagonist in Spain U21's victory over Slovakia

César Tárrega scored the winner as Diego López and Cristhian Mosquera also impressed with key assists
Spain kicked off their 2025 U21 EURO campaign with a dramatic win over hosts Slovakia, thanks to a late goal from Valencia CF’s César Tárrega. The match also saw standout performances from Diego López and Cristhian Mosquera, who each provided an assist, while Javi Guerra was heavily involved in several dangerous attacks.

Spain took an early lead after Javi Guerra delivered a wicked cross into the box that struck the post. Mateo Joseph picked up the rebound, found Diego López, and the Valencia CF winger laid it off perfectly for Pubill to slot home. Just two minutes later, the pressure continued and Mateo Joseph added a second for Spain.

After the break, Slovakia responded with goals from Kopasek — finishing from inside the area — and Suslov, who converted a penalty to bring the hosts level.
Spain pushed for a winner in the closing stages at the National Stadium in Bratislava, coming close through Moleiro and Javi Guerra, only to be denied by Slovak goalkeeper Belko.

Then came the decisive moment in the 90th minute — and it was all about Valencia CF. Javi Guerra whipped in a corner to the near post, Mosquera flicked it on, and César Tárrega showed great anticipation and strength to get ahead of the defence and head home the winning goal.
